What We Suggest

Lifestyle Modification

Simple lifestyle modifications can help in relieving knee pain. It is best to avoid high impact exercises and wear appropriate footwear to maintain the correct posture while walking or playing sports or exercising. Its good to consult a physical therapist who can guide you for simple lifestyle modifications and simple stretching exercises which can take load off your knee and in some cases, might be able to fix knee related issues too. Physical therapy also helps you to strengthen your muscles and enhances the joint stability.

Medications may help

For some patients, we feel that knee condition may be revived without surgery. For them we suggest injections, such as Corticosteroids, Hyaluronic acid and Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and optimum medication first. Our expert team of radiologists under ultrasound screening to ensure that the drug is administered at the targeted location administers these injections.
Our first solution is always lifestyle modification and physical therapy. Only then if required we resort to medications or surgery.

Do I need a surgery?

Surgery is not always the answer! At Chanddni Hospital, we first examine your condition and suggest simple lifestyle modifications and physical therapy to ease out the pain. Only patients who can not be treated with non-surgical methods are guided about the surgery. At Chanddni Hospital, we are specialized in knee replacement surgery, arthroscopic surgery to treat ligaments, meniscus, cartilage and problems of the patella. Patients with previously failed surgeries or with revision surgeries, or ones with multiple ligaments damage, or ones requiring re-alignment surgeries are also being treated at Chanddni Hospital.
Knee Replacement Surgery, also known as knee arthroplasty is a surgical procedure to replace the weight-bearing surfaces of the knee to help ease the pain and disability caused by severe osteoarthritis. Apart from treating osteoarthritis, the doctor may also suggest knee replacement surgery for treating:
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis, a condition in which the immune system of the body attacks to destroy the knee lining.
  • Deformities like bowed legs
  • Knee Injury that has caused a broken bone or torn ligament around the knee.
  • Osteonecrosis or Avascular Necrosis, a condition in which the blood flow to the bones stops.
Knee Replacement Surgery
Total Knee Replacement Surgery
Total Knee Replacement Surgery:
In which the surface of the thighbone and shinbone that connect to the knee are replaced.
Partial Knee Replacement
Partial Knee Replacement:
In which only one side of the knee is replaced. This is only possible if arthritis partially affects the knee. The surgeon only suggests this if the patient has strong knee ligaments.
Kneecap Replacement
Kneecap Replacement:
In which only the under-surface of the kneecap is replaced. Many surgeons, however, do not recommend this, as it has low rate of success when compared to total knee replacement surgery.
Complex Knee Replacement
Complex Knee Replacement:
This is recommended in case a patient has had 2-3 knee replacement surgeries in the past or has severe arthritis.
The Procedure of Knee Replacement Surgery
Knee replacement surgery can take up to 1-2 hours. During the surgery, the orthopedic surgeon replaces the diseased or damaged part of the knee joint with a metal or plastic component that’s allows to mimic the functionality and movement of the original knee.
Recovery after Knee Replacement Surgery
Knee replacement surgery involves extensive postoperative pain. It is highly recommended to get vigorous physical therapy post operation. It may take up to 6 weeks or more to recover. Meanwhile, use of mobility aids like canes, crutches or walking frame may be required.
At Chanddni Hospital, we provide knee replacements either Bilateral (in same sitting), Simultaneous (at the gap of 2 days) or One by one separate (at the gap of 6 hours).

Why Chanddni Hospital?

When you visit Chanddni Hospital, our team of expert doctors first examine your condition, the cause of the pain, the extent of your disability and only then suggest the best treatment for you. We get to the root cause of the problem. At times the problem is not with the knee but is in fact with the spine or the hip, causing the pressure on the knee joints.
We try to keep our tests to the minimal and start our investigation with a basic X-ray. Only after that if required we ask our patients to get an MRI or other tests done. We do not believe in unnecessary treatment, medications, tests or surgery.
